A prominent American athlete a five-time Olympian accused the Canadian squad of pulling a majority of its competitors from a race in Lake Placid. She claimed this reduced the field, making a lower points pool available. Although she took first place, the American athlete failed to earn her qualifying position for the Milan-Cortina Games.

“The current IBSF Rules permit National Federations to pull competitors from competition at any time,” declared the International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation (IBSF).
