Following weeks of tension, schemes and backstabbing, The Celebrity Traitors concludes with a thrilling finale
Spoiler alert - This piece discloses key moments from Celebrity Traitors finale
Over the course of the show, audiences saw murders, betrayals, serious side-eye, and a memorable moment that cut through the overwhelming suspense.
However on the final evening, the ultimate victor of the inaugural Celebrity Traitors emerged triumphant.
From nineteen participants, just a handful remained: Deceivers and faithfuls competing for the winnings.
Soon, the competition tightened to just three: the final players.
In the end, comedian Alan Carr emerged as the winner, in a shocking result that broke the internet and made him tearful.
"This has been destroying me, my apologies," he exclaimed, admitting to the other players that he'd always been a traitor. "I'm an awful human being."
"You played amazingly," they consoled him. "Everything's fine."
Online platforms immediately exploded with this development. "Most awful traitor ever being the best traitor ever," wrote one user.
"It couldn't have been a more iconic ending," wrote a different person, while someone else called it "the TV moment of the year."
The organization he selected, Neuroblastoma UK, gets to keep the entire winnings, with the total amount reaching eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.
Alan Carr's transformation from giggle liability to strategic player was one of the standout highlights of the series.
But his win still shocked viewers in shock, according to entertainment reporters.
"The thought of him, among everyone, pulling off an expert performance in deception felt about as likely as him keeping composure through one of his own punchlines."
On subsequent discussions, the other contestants summed up the reasons nobody had ever really suspected him.
"Alan could have appeared to the morning meal in traitor attire and I wouldn't have believed he was a traitor. I was too busy laughing," a player said.
"Most people didn't vote for him because how does one vote for a person so charming?" questioned another celebrity.
The winner stated he had "absolutely loved" his experience with the program.
"I want to do it again... I don't think it would work again!"
The final installment was extended to 70 minutes on the network. There was an unusual opening than typical episodes, as all the celebs knew who would appear at the breakfast table.
Viewers heard some very uplifting, and very un-Traitors-esque soundtrack, as we recapped key scenes from every remaining player's time in the castle.
True to form, Alan Carr gave us some of the most memorable lines.
"To be honest, I began this game a bit of a nervous wreck. I've thrown some really good friends to save myself, I've eliminated national treasures openly. Apparently I'm a better liar and traitor than I believed."
Meanwhile, a different player noted that reaching the conclusion was "significantly more pressure than competing with a national team", while someone else said he was "completely amazed" to have lasted this long.
In the beginning in the episode, various contestants seemed to be making a bid to become the new style icon of the competition, replacing the previously eliminated style leader.
The winner appeared at the morning meal looking like a vintage television personality in a checked maroon suit, before changing into an embellished light-colored outfit.
However, he got out-jacketted by a fellow player's burgundy formal wear. What a look.
Next up was the competition, with the remaining contestants getting on board a train named - of course - The Deceivers' Railway.
This task saw them ripping up images of eliminated players. Spare a thought for a player who managed to get hit on the head THREE times by the lid of a heavy wooden box.
Soon after, the moment arrived for the elimination discussion.
Two traitors made a pact in advance, pledging to support each other. "We've come a long way, I won't throw him under a bus," stated one, while the other simply laughed.
However, one did stick to their agreement. But, having slipped unnoticed for the majority of the competition, the other still got the most votes.
The remaining traitor looked like he was in significant distress to be the last traitor standing. "Being alone, I'm frightened," he said. "I'm a loose cannon, a rudderless ship."
Online platforms and viewers were equally disappointed.
"I did NOT want that player to be banished. An endearing deceiver," commented an observer.
"You will forever be remembered in Traitors history," posted a different viewer.
But there was no time to focus on this departure. Soon, they were at the final stage - which was what we were really all here for.
The final four gathered around the ceremonial fire. Meanwhile, the partnership collapsed, precisely when it mattered the most, in a truly WTF moment.
One contestant was painfully banished - following a surprising decision from their partner, who betrayed them.
"It hurts to be stabbed in the back last minute like that," remarked the eliminated player. Subsequently, we learned that when they message, the eliminated contestant refers to the other as a traitor.
Ultimately, just three players were still competing: the last participants.
A contestant, appearing quite pleased, chose to conclude the game. The same decision was made by a different player, and it all came down to the final participant, who made the identical choice - which meant that the traitor was the winner.
According to commentators, the scene where remaining contestants consoled the champion was "beautiful TV". "I predict it could be a contender for outstanding scene at next year's awards," they said.
Happily, the champion soon recovered from his emotional outburst, and was able to enjoy his victory.
"Such an emotional journey. I thought I was terrible at deception, my expressions gave me away and here I am the champion," the winner said.
He also made light of that infamous murder - his close ally during the initial stages - by reaching over the host in the final scene and making contact.
"There's something on your face," he said, with his trademark giggle.
The last few weeks of famous people scheming, plotting and sometimes surprising incidents may feel like a bizarre fantasy. But it really did all happen. And we will miss it.
