The English golfer Secures Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship in Thrilling Play-Off Showdown Versus Tommy Fleetwood
The 30-year-old golfer demonstrated exceptional composure to secure the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship on Sunday, defeating Tommy Fleetwood in a tense play-off after a rollercoaster final round of play.
Rai sank a crucial birdie putt from around eight feet to clinch the victory, echoing his only previous tournament triumph at the 2020 Scottish Open, which was also a play-off victory over the same opponent.
Final Round Excitement
The champion started the final round with a one-shot lead over countryman Fleetwood and Danish golfer Højgaard. He finished with a total score of twenty-under after a topsy-turvy, 67 closing round that featured seven birdie putts and two bogeys.
The challenger moved a stroke clear with two holes to play after a birdie on the 16th, but his rival tied it up again on the seventeenth and then failed to convert a 10-foot birdie attempt to win outright on the last hole.
Play-Off Decider
This set up a play-off at the Yas Links course where the eventual winner prevailed to claim the title and $1.5 million (ÂŁ1.13 million) in winnings.

Notable Contenders
Rory McIlroy left himself a bit too far to make up, coming up one shot short in a shared third place with the Dane, after a stunning 10-under final round of 62. It was his best-ever score on the DP World Tour, comprising eight birdie putts and an eagle.
The Danish golfer carded six birdie putts of his own, but his hopes of leading the standings were hit by a dropped shot on the twelfth. England’s Richard Mansell hit an excellent last round seven-under to end up in a tie for fifth place with Australian Hillier.
