The Game UN:Me: An Cerebral Thriller Merging Silent Hill and Among Us Mechanics
The latest Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled a number of fascinating future games, but one especially has seized attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure appears to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.
"This is a distinctive game where a young woman containing multiple personalities within her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the mind," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.
Stepping Into a Shattered Mind
In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of high school age. Within her reside four separate personas, all possessing unique fears and motivations. These souls can take over spontaneously, releasing their deep-seated phobias upon her suddenly.
Judging by revealed footage, much of the action unfolds within a creepy medical facility, though additional clips show the main character navigating a desolate chapel.
A World of Personal Dread
"What are you fearful of? What makes you uncomfortable?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Things that seem trivial to others can trigger a deep instinct within us. This game explores that concept — fears that are unique to each person."
The core mechanic involves controlling whichever soul emerges at any given time. However, these identities will switch involuntarily during gameplay. While exploring, every persona's anxieties become exaggerated and attack the protagonist in succession. When the soul shifts, so does the particular terror the player encounters.
Unsettling Aesthetics and a Deadly Choice
Initially, UN:Me shares striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is populated by nurses who all share the identical visage, with disturbingly broad grins. Figures in the lobby have large blooms growing from their heads should be. Flowers are a recurring theme, juxtaposing natural beauty with supernatural dread.
Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four entities haunting the heroine is the "real" one. "All four souls claims that the body is rightfully them," notes a developer. "During the game, you must determine who is authentic."
Once players have deduced a soul is fake, they are forced to destroy it. However, because every entity can deceive or hide the truth, it is incredibly simple to make a mistake.
"Perhaps you've already eliminated the real [soul] with your own hands," a voice suggests. "The final entity standing might be a fake. Either way, your decisions are irreversible."
UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed release date, but it is can be wishlist on platforms.
