Several days post the devastating hurricane pummelled into the island's west coast with historic intensity, residents in devastated communities along the coast are still desperately waiting for help.

Multiple routes are blocked by debris and communities are stranded with scarce supplies, lacking utilities, and no idea of when normalcy will return.

Growing Fatalities

Officials reported on recently that a minimum of 28 persons in Jamaica have lost their lives following the hurricane's impact as a monster category five storm with nearly 300 km/h wind speeds.

This marks approximately half again as many in the casualty count recently, and totals might grow as workers advance into additional regions in the near future.

Area-Specific Damage

Westmoreland parish is thought to contain the next largest count of unconfirmed deaths, following St Elizabeth to the south east. The eye of the storm made landfall around the adjacent regions. In St Elizabeth an estimated 90% of homes have been demolished.

Seated under the facade of a badly damaged building, Roy Perry said he has suffered total deprivation, but "we have to just keep the faith and the hope is up still"

This reflects identical sentiment struck by Oreth Jones, located in his transport distributing salvaged crops – the remaining harvest that was saved from destruction.

Regarding his agricultural land, he said: "Everything is destroyed. Total ruin resulted" But he quickly followed up with: "We need to appreciate being alive"

Foreign Aid

Meanwhile, external support is commencing delivery into Jamaica.

United States officials declared that its crisis response group had made entry. Nations such as Britain have also promised significant monetary support and critical resources.
