Worrying Number of Individuals Now Engage in Vaping, Warns Global Health Authority
Over 100 million people, including at least 15 million youth, currently use e-cigarettes, fueling a new trend of nicotine habit, per latest global health data.
Children are, on average, nine times more prone than grown-ups to engage in vaping, based on available worldwide statistics.
E-cigarettes are propelling a "recent wave" of nicotine dependency, remarked a prominent health expert. "They are advertised as harm reduction but, in reality, are hooking kids on nicotine earlier and endanger weakening years of advancement."
Young People Being 'Aimed At'
"Countless of citizens are quitting, or avoiding tobacco usage thanks to tobacco restriction initiatives by nations throughout the globe," he stated.
"As an answer to this strong advancement, the tobacco sector is resisting with novel nicotine devices, forcefully aiming at adolescents. Authorities must respond faster and more forcefully in implementing tested tobacco-control policies," he further stated.
The e-cigarette figures are an approximation since some states - 109 in total, and several in Africa and Southeast Asia - lack data.
Per the analysis, as of this past February this period, at bare minimum 86 million e-cigarette users were adults, mostly in high-income countries.
And at bare minimum 15 million teenagers aged 13 and 15 currently use e-cigarettes, based on studies from 123 states.
Even though many states have made efforts to establish e-cigarette policies to address child vaping in recent years, by the end of 2024, 62 nations even now had no regulation in effect, and 74 countries had no age limit at which e-cigarettes may be bought, states the health body.
At the same time, tobacco consumption has been declining - from an estimated 1.38 billion individuals in 2000 to 1.2 billion in 2024.
Occurrence of tobacco consumption among females fell the greatest - from 11% in 2010 to 6.6% in 2024.
Among males, the reduction was from 41.4% in 2010 to 32.5% in 2024.
But 20% of mature individuals globally even now uses tobacco.
Cigarette consumption is connected to several illnesses, such as cancer.
Professionals claim vaping is far less damaging than traditional cigarettes, and can help you stop smoking. It is discouraged for non-smokers.
E-cigarettes avoid burning tobacco and do not produce black substance or CO, two of the most harmful elements in tobacco vapors. They contain nicotine, which can be addictive.
